Rob Gardner FICS MBA started his shipping career at sea as a deck officer before coming ashore to take up an opportunity in ships agency. He was a partner in a successful South African non liner ships agency, which later became part of the Grindrod Group. Rob has worked in various capacities for Grindrod, looking after operations in southern and East Africa. His role as the executive for marine operations has involved him in ship construction, vessel purchase, time charters, bareboat charters as well as voyage chartering. Having recently retired from Grindrod, Rob has setup RGC Consulting, which has a focus on chartering and project management on the African coast

Rob has been a tutor with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers since 2004. He is a past lead examiner and chair of the Education and Training Committee.
