Joshua Burris
Board Member, Organization of Black Maritime Graduates (OBMG) Second Mate & Dynamic Positioning Officer, Jackson Offshore Operators
Joshua Burris is a SUNY Maritime College graduate, licensed Second Mate Unlimited, and Board Member of the Organization of Black Maritime Graduates (OBMG). Before attending SUNY Maritime, Joshua began his maritime career as a deckhand working aboard dredges and tugboats with Weeks Marine. He later attended SUNY Maritime College and worked his way up to become a licensed deck officer and Dynamic Positioning Officer, currently sailing with Jackson Offshore Operators.
Joshua is currently studying and preparing to upgrade his U.S. Coast Guard license to Chief Mate Unlimited, continuing his progression toward the highest levels of professional maritime leadership. Through his work with OBMG, he is passionate about mentorship, scholarships, career development, and showing young people that there are multiple pathways to build successful careers in the maritime industry.
