Chartering Workshop Returns to Breakbulk Americas

Captain Philip H. Bacon to Lead Popular Session in Houston

Breakbulk Events and Media is thrilled to announce that the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) will be hosting another of its popular chartering workshops at next month’s Breakbulk Americas event in Houston.

Building on the resounding success of a chartering workshop at Breakbulk Europe in Rotterdam in June, Captain Philip H. Bacon, vice president of operations at shipowning group Siem Shipping Inc. and Fellow of the ICS, will once again be giving chartering professionals and those who work with chartering contracts the lowdown on the practice’s key principles and applications.

The one-day, intermediate level workshop will cover a number of key topics including major cargoes and trade routes, chartering terminology, shipping and market sector definitions, bills of lading and the advantages and limitations of shipbroker authority.

The session, which will include two networking coffee breaks and lunch, will also explore the profit and loss levers and rationale of breakbulk cargoes, key stakeholders in a chartering contract and demurrage and dispatch across different sectors.

The workshop at Breakbulk Europe was the biggest and best yet, drawing more than 60 industry professionals including forwarders, shipbrokers, cargo owners, carriers, port agents and stevedores.

“It was fantastic – I learnt so much from the instructor,” said Trilan Perera, executive director at Lanka Shipping and Logistics and a participant at the workshop in Rotterdam. “There were certain things I didn’t know that I discovered. This world is evolving, and we need to learn!”

“The instructor is so engaging,” said Juliana Gibbons, vice president for commercial at Swire Projects. “It’s an excellent course to take if you want a broad understanding of chartering.”

Breakbulk Americas 2023 is happening at the George R. Brown Convention Center on 26-28 September. The workshop will take place on 26 September from 9:00am – 4:30pm. For the full workshop program plus details on how to get your Early Bird special rates, click here.

We look forward to seeing you in Houston!
