Sophia Fallquist

Marine Engineering Technology Undergraduate Student Texas A&M Galveston

Sophia Falquist is an undergraduate student in her senior year studying Marine Engineering Technology at Texas A&M University at Galveston. Pursuing a degree in a male-dominated industry, she is an advocate for increased representation for women in both the maritime and engineering industries.

She is an active member of the Women In Maritime Operations (WIMOs) nonprofit, where she founded the nonprofit’s first junior chapter and served as President from March 2024 to May 2026. Additionally, she served as a Brand Ambassador at Breakbulk Americas 2025 representing the WIMOs Jr. Chapter at A&M Galveston.
In Summer 2025, Sophia participated in the Kirby Corporation internship program, where she had the opportunity to shadow maritime professionals working in various departments across the industry.

In early 2026, she participated in the an intensive maritime case study competition, the Blue Economy Leadership Institute (BELI), where her team was awarded with 1st place and top prize.

For her future career, she plans to start in hands-on work to further develop her technical skills and sees herself working as in maintenance and repair, decommissioning, or beneficial use in dredging. She has a passion for the maritime environment and sustainability, and wants to combine it with her engineering education to advocate for changes to help the longevity of resources used in the maritime world
