Exploration Ground Systems Program Operations Flow Manager NASA

Liliana Villarreal is the operations flow manager in Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She is responsible for the overall management, planning, integration, and execution of all operational ground and flight hardware activities required to support Orion and Space Launch System human space flight missions. She moved into the position in March 2021.

Prior to her current job, Villarreal served as the Mission Operations Branch chief under the Operations Test and Management Division of EGS for two years. Prior to the branch chief role, she served as manager of the spacecraft and offline operations team, responsible for the offline operations of the Orion spacecraft and the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage. 

Prior to joining NASA in November 2007, Villarreal worked for The Boeing Company at Kennedy Space Center. She was a mechanical, assembly, and handling engineer, helping process several components and payloads for delivery to the International Space Station on space shuttle missions.

Villarreal was born in Cartagena, Colombia, but considers Miami, Florida, to be her hometown. She moved with her family to Florida when she was 10 years old.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering in 1996, and a master’s degree in aerospace engineering in 1997, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Villarreal also earned a master’s degree in management of technology in 2002 from the College of Engineering at the University of Miami.

She is the recipient of various awards and recognitions, including a Space Flight Awareness Team Award in 2018, a Group Achievement Award in 2014, an Exceptional Medal of Achievement in 2013, and various certificates of achievement and certificates of commendation. She also received group achievement awards from Johnson Space Center in 2011 and 2009.

Villarreal resides in Suntree, Florida, with her husband, Timothy O’Hare, a daughter, Sabrina, and son, Miguel.
